Harry the carrier pigeon

How did people ever manage without Whatsapp?

Resulting from a fun conversation the other day, I was compelled to draw a scenario where people communicate as we do today but using the means of old.

It became an interesting exercise in timing. I read this blog post the other day and was made to remember how excellent the Sad Pictures For Children are in their comedic timing. Like really top of the line.

Initially I drew the strip in the format above because I happened to be working on journal comics and that was the template lying before me. So I drew to the restrictions (four panels) which is a good exercise, but then I thought what if I let the content dictate the layout, is there a version where the timing is more spot-on? And so I made this.

I’m not sure which one is my favorite. I just know the blank-faced pigeon tossing away the note makes me laugh every time. Let me know your favorite in the comments.
